In a forgotten valley, at the farthest edge of the withered forest, a tower stands. It was the last bastion of an empire that no longer exists.
We find ourselves in Falcem Coeli, also known as “The Scythe of the Sky”, a flourishing land. Over time, the wars of old have faded into legend and children’s tales. The great forest once covered most of the kingdom, with small villages along its edges, near rivers and streams.
Veria, the greatest sorceress of this age, had retired to a cottage in the village of Tadd. Yes, magic still existed, but it was fading and growing weaker. Something was consuming the world’s mana, and all clues had led her to the ancient Arcane Tower.
The Tower had been ignored for centuries, said to be cursed. Giant thorns had grown around it, devouring it all the way to its very peak. Veria suspected it could be the source of the problem. She wasn’t wrong—but she had no proof. Besides, she had responsibilities, and those responsibilities had feet, hands, and even a name: Maia.
A gifted young woman she had adopted several years ago. Her magic was strong, untouched by the weakening forces, and full of potential. She had just turned eighteen, and the world was opening up before her. Veria believed Maia could change the world… and once again, she wasn’t wrong.
One night, a voice began calling to Maia in her dreams: Save us! Save us all!
It came from the Tower. Maia couldn’t ignore it. But Veria had forbidden her from going near it. Maia didn’t even know how to get there—it was hidden deep within the forest. So she had no choice but to seek help. She had heard of a boy her age who did questionable jobs, but always delivered—if the price was right. His name was Brishen.
It didn’t take much to convince him: it was just a matter of reaching the bridge. From there, she’d go on alone. “Easy money,” the boy thought.
By the time they set out, dawn was breaking. It took them a whole day to reach the place and confirm that there was no visible barrier—at least none that could be seen, apart from the thorns wrapping around the valley.
As she crossed the bridge, Maia felt something was off. Thorn-walkers appeared, and she had no choice but to jump… and vanish into the darkness.
